dear nandini.......5th n 7th house is very afflictd
Exalted planets are the cause of major misconceptions among the people practicing and interested in astrology. Most of the people interested in astrology and many astrologers believe that the meaning of an Exalted planet in a horoscope is that the planet is strongly positive for the native and is very likely to produce strong positive results regarding the general significances ruled by it, the house it occupies and the aspects it is casting on other planets and houses. For example, an exalted Saturn in Libra is considered very good by many astrologers and it is believed that a person having Saturn placed in Libra in his horoscope is very likely going to be blessed by the good results of Saturn throughout his life. In the same way it is considered that an exalted Sun placed in Aries in a horoscope is a sure indication of very good results which may include securing good posts in government departments and administrative fields among other things. And similarly all the other planets in their signs of exaltation are considered to be strongly positive and they are associated with strong positive results. But this is just a misconception and the placement of a planet in its sign of exaltation in a horoscope does not imply that the planet is positive in nature. ...........so nothng to fear............thnx

If I may I'd like to contribute the following to the conversation...

If we look to the masters of jyotish ( in this case mahaṛṣi jaimini) he informs us, tasmin uche nīche vā śrīmantaḥ . This says both exalted ( ucca ) and debilited ( nīche) bring ( indeed or vā) śrīmantaḥ or śrīmat i.e. auspiciousness, fortune, wealthy , prosperous , eminent or of high rank or dignity. Now this rule applies to the atma-kārakā , and to a special ascendent called śrī lagna ( more on this later).

A debilited planet is called nīca meaning low, debilitated; yet it also means humble . This humbleness adds to one's spirituality ( as I have been taught). Hence on the material objective world nīca may be unattractive, yet in spiritual pursuits it is of benefit.

If one had a ~planet ~ or graha¹ that is in nīca yet at the same time is vakra¹ ( retrograde) then a different condition exists and functions as a rāja-yoga kārakā - that is, it aquires strength and has the capacity for a good influence. One too must look to see if this graha is vargottama in the 1/9th house. This too brings strength.

What is of interest to me is that of the atma-kārakā - this is the graha with the highest degree º in any one sign. It is of key import in one's chart. When one's atma-kārakā is nīca the individual may not even look for material/financial improvement - even if they did it would be to support their spiritual intent. This strength ( for this spiritual pursuit) is supported when the atma-kārakā is strong in the navāṃśa¹ ( or 1/9th divisional chart). This supports dharma for that individual.
In advanced spiritual pursuits the atma-kārakā is also nīca in the 1/20th chart ( called vimsāṃśa); in fact many start with the 1/20th divisional chart for indications of one's spiritual orientation.

Some jyotishi's with a higher level of knowledge will also look to the 1/60th chart ( called ṣaṣṭhyāṃśa) suggesting the continuation of dharma that spills over from past events-life experiences.

... just some thoughts for one's consideration.

    praṇām

    words
    • graha - seizing , laying hold of , holding i.e. a graha ~seizes~ or influences the circumstances of the native.
    • vargottama - chief of class ; this means the best possible divisonal placement that has the graha in the same house in the birth chart and 1/9th divisional chart.
    • nīca - low, debilitated; it also means humble
    • vakra = appearent backward motion i.e. retrograde
    • navāṃśa = navan or 9 + aṃśa partition or division. aṃśa also means denominator, so we have 1/9th division

Just wanted a clarification as I see the phrase Tasmin Ucche Neeche va Srimantha used a lot. What is the full sutra? What does it apply to? Only the atmakaraka and Sri Lagna? I read an article elsewhere where it was used for other karakas as well.

Re: debiliated planets in 7 house

    Hello Nandhini Ji,

You need to assess 7th house, 7th lord and Venus in D1 & D9 to assess married life of a native. Don't get upset based on only factor. Also please note that every planet cannot effect us through out life.
They can impact us only during their Dasas or Bukthis.

    Thanks
    Krishna
