Does something follow us from one universe creation to another?

If that is true then I am bound to think that every cycle has something in common with every other cycle in the infinity of cycles. I'm not sure what that is.

Sure. Every cycle DOES have something in common with every other cycle. It is essentially EVERYTHING. It is the same soul, the same prakriti [although how prakriti evolves may be different in every cycle] and the same God - the efficient cause.

Does the Atman it self, evolve in each cycle thus carrying over the lessons from the past cycles? Even without the karma.

Firstly, Karma is beginningless. So, "without the karma" is a contradiction in terms. There never was a point in time when Karma was not of embodied souls.

Next, the souls with the subtle impressions, samskaras [tendencies], seed potentialities continue to be present across the cycles. Whether a soul has "evolved" or "devolved" spiritually is upto the actions of the soul. Some of them evolve and other devolve.

Sure. It is upto the Atman. They have this pesky thing called free will, apparently.

I am actually apt to think that the Atman will always strive to go higher if it has a real chance.

Very interesting question. The answer is neither easy not straight forward. We can only infer.

My take :

1. The birth and rebirth of any being is dependent on the condition of the mind at the death. Depending on the state of mind, it gets attracted to a corresponding body and environment which satisfies the demands and the charateristics of the mind. It can be human, higher forms or lower forms.

2. The lower minds contribute towards the higher minds. The minds of the cells contribute towards the minds of the organs to mind of human, to mind of society to mind of country to mind of world, to mind of universe to mind of entireity - God

3. The minds are points of wave generators - the waves and frequencies depend on the characteristics of mind. The saints have very low frequencies and very low amplitudes. People with higher desires and ego and other attributes have higher frequencies and amplitudes. These waves create ripples / waves in the energy ocean and thus we have the constant dance - Shiva's dance. The fluctuations in the minds are part of this cosmic dance. Just like we transmit data in terms of frequency or waveforms, similarly the next birth also depends on the frequency and the waveform the mind is carrying.

4. The resultant amplitudes and frequencies (in ocean we see different waves of different frequencies and amplitudes) of the entirety remains when the unmanifestation happens. These waves create the harmonics which compresses energy to covert into mass (still a mystery).

5. Now as people's mind evolve and the next body is dependent on the state of mind at death, similarly the next manifestation is dependent on the state of mind of entirety (God) at unmanifestation. Depending on the amplitude and frequency it can manifest upto different levels - it may be upto planets, or upto plants or upto some animals or even upto more than humans. The elements may also be different - who knows. We only know that for the environment we know carbon, hydrogen, oxygen and nitrogen are must. But for a different environment it can be different.

6. If the minds can be totally reduced to no frequency no amplitude - then no further births or manifestations. This is theoritical and impossible to achieve for the entirety
