I heard a story about cutting hair and why it's bad.

Okay so I heard a story in a Gurdwara and they said back in the Mughal rule when Hindus didn't cut their hair or shave were captured by the Mughal police. Whenever it turned nighttime the Hindus would do a prayer to the Gods and the doors would open and they would excape and get captured again and this cycle kept going. Then the King got advice to try to get the most Handsomest man and made a contest and everyone (male) cut their hair and got captured; then when the Hindus would pray the doors wouldn't open. Does anybody know the storys name? :/

I've never heard this myth. Actually, Hindus have been cutting their hair for a very long time, as can be seen in the link to a statue of a Hindu priest from Mohenjo-Dharo at the bottom of this post. This just kind of sounds like some kind of Sikh propaganda to justify how refraining from cutting one's hair is a symbol of a true believer, which is something that is not taught in Hinduism.

    namaste

Some ascetics don't cut their hair because they want to retain as much prana as possible.
However there are plenty of barber shops in India for the average Hindu.

    Vanakkam,

Hindu cut or offer their hair in temples for some ceremonies and special occasion, so I don't think it's bad or unauspicious

Yes, I have heard this as well. At the Venkateshwara temple in Tirumala, I have heard that all pilgrims, male and female, leave bald. What a sacrifice!

Vannakkam: Not all, but a lot. Palani Murugan temple also, pays to be a barber in places like that, and they have incredible skill. Five minutes with a straight razor, and an amazing result.
