Why Hindi why not Sanskrit?

This question is bugging me for a while. Why did India's language change to Hindi why couldn't it still be the Sanskrit language used thousands of years ago. What made it change?

If I might humbly offer a few thoughts:

If we compare knowledge to the flowing water of the great Saraswati, can we also compare the banks which channel and
guide this great source, to the tongue with which that knowledge is spoken?

Language its self is a flow, and like the banks of a great river, it moves with time; just like a great river snakes through the
countryside by its erosion. Certain events, can even lead to a complete change of course of a river.
Just as words can change the flow of time.

One thing is certain, the water in this great flow; always eventually merges with the ocean.

The beauty of the Sanskrit language is to me, in the image of conciousness that it offers; holding firmly onto its roots,
allowing it greater strength than the "average" language through self recognition, even as its branches sprout leaves which
may eventually fall. This sacred core continues breathing.
Could this offer to us an explanation, as to why Sanskrit has survived for so long. Where other languages have either died,
or, changed beyond reasonable recognition?
