okay, i guess this could be considered jainistic in thought but here is a theory i have thought of.
Science says energy cannot be created nor destroyed
obviously scientistists speak of matter when they say this. The universe could have existed eternally, no beginning and no end. because if the big bang started from condensed energy, that energy (or matter) was there and who knows maybe there was another universe inside of it. Regardless of if there are billions of universes lets just all term it under one universe for the sake of argument.
the universe is essentially brahman
it has no beginning and no end, it is infinite, and can't really be grasped
there is duality in the universe
we are all made of matter, the same nature essentially. the same particles but remain distinct. if you take a drop of water and drop it in a pond, it appears to emerge in the pond because you can no longer see that individual drop, but really that drop is still there, just invisible to us. To prove this theory, place red dye in that drop of water and drop it in the pond, you'll see it's still there, it doesn't actually merge, it exists with the water but at the same time remains distinct.
the nature of the living organism
consciousness for the sake of argument= our thoughts
it isn't one thing, it is always changing, you are constantly thinking one thought after another, your personality gets shaped. everything about you, even your brain is changing.
But there is one part of you that isn't because it has moved from infant to kid to adult to elder
What is that? It is the perceiver. It is the self
Self= Perception/Awarness
you're constantly perceiving all these different thoughts and actions, even in sleep you, the perceiver are still alive
so the universe is dualistic between both matter and selves
and the self, when you break it down, is the perceiver. the part of you that is aware of what is going on, the part of you that senses all your thoughts and feelings.
If you take a drug like lsd, your thoughts change. your thoughts our your brain, your perception of the world changes. But what doesn't change, that basic part of you that is the Perceiver, that basic part of you that is contantly perceiving or being aware of things.
You get brain damage, your personality changes. But you notice this, you notice your a different person, but what hasn't changed, you the perceiver. you perceive these changes.
So perhaps we are all co-eternal atmans or perceivers that have always existed with the universe and will never born or die. Our true selves are spiritual since matter and biology is unstable, constantly changing even when we can't see it.
