    Origins of Nirguna Brahman

    Namaste all,

How did the idea of Nirguna Brahman come about originally? Is it traceable to the Vedas?

What does Nirguna Brahman mean in your practice of the Dharma? To me, Nirguna Brahman indicates the Source, the Unmanifest, the Infinite. Yet what does that mean to us?

I am also curious about whether Nirguna Brahman is mentioned in the early Upanishads (Chandrogya, Brihadaranyaka, etc.) and was wondering if anyone had some quotes with weblinks to online texts for easy reference. This would really help me further develop my understanding.

    Namaste Svapnaja,

Please refer to MAndukya Upanishad. The fourth state of Brahman is Nirguna which is the Self and is to be known.

I refer you to your own earlier thread on the same topic.

I believe I provided an answer there from the Rig Veda itself.

Thanks for the responses. I had forgotten about that previous thread. It should come back to me once I give it another read through.
