    Population Explosion

    Namaste,

After reading the article at the following link, I wonder how many people would blame the imposition of Victorian morality on Indians in the past, or the influence of Islam, and pretend that we are too dumb to escape from those constraints and take responsibility for our actions?

    Pranams,

The reality is that none of these things are really to blame. Procreation naturally occurs when food is plentiful and economic circumstances are favorable. When the State redistributes wealth and finds other ways to cushion the effect of poverty, falsely concealing the effects of population expansion with regard to resource supply, it is only natural to expect population growth that becomes even more dependent on the actions of the State. Food scarcity is also very much the result of price controls imposed by the State, often for political reasons and with little economic justification. Given the chance to operate freely, markets provide these things and an equilibrium between production and consumption is naturally achieved without the intervention of the State.

Most journalists don't understand economics and only write about these things because they want the State to enforce population control. This would be quite draconian, although it's what they do in China. Still, I don't think the Chinese model is one to be emulated.

Fair enough, but procreation starting at age 10-11, as it does happen in some of the villages, can't be blamed on any of the external or internal factors outside the purview of the family elders.

Take the total population of the world... all would fit into the state of Texas (USA). each person would have about 1,000 sq. ft. ( 92.9 sq. meters) per person¹.

    TEXAS on the world map...

In fact the world's population would fit into Rhode Island if we were in a pinch for land.

    1. the math for this:
    a. ~ population of the world 7 billion people
    b. landmass of Texas is 268,820 sq mi (7,494,271,488,000 sq ft).
    c. 7,494,271,488,000 sq.ft. / 7 billion people = 1070.6 sq. ft. per person

    Pranams,

Of course, 10-11 year olds can't procreate, but child marriages do occur and, anthropologically speaking, are the norm in societies where life-expectancies are short. Even in the Vedic system, assuming traditional expectations of education and marriage were followed, a male would likely take a wife somewhere been ages 17-20 years (as in, the man's age) which would still be young by our standards. To say nothing of how old the girl would be, which could almost certainly be younger in most cases.

There is no need to worry about 7 billion. If we could fit the 2 billion muslims in texas with the condition that they can't get out of the state, many problems would be solved, first and foremost being the abolition of TSA. The whole world would thank us for our generosity, specially Israel and India.

First of all I am glad that we are moving towards Vedic anthropology and not bringing in the much dreaded Victorian stuff. Secondly, it has been my understanding that the Vedic system divided the 100 yrs of life into 4 parts, the first 25 yrs being for studying, and then 25 yrs of householding and so on. Add to that the non-Vedic period when the life expectancy was short and so things moved at a quicker pace. But what does all that have to do with TODAY? Life expectancy is quite healthy and getting married at 10-11 and becoming parents at 13 is indefensible. Any excuses would be just excuses, not any valid reasons!
