    Rudraksha

Any person, who wears the Rudraksha without mantra in this earth, will go to hell for 14 tenures of Indra or one Kalpa.

Which Mantra should I use before wearing the Rudraksha beads? By the way the ones I have almost go down to my belly button if worn on my neck, is that fine?

    Vanakkam,

I have 108 rudrashka beads, I don't know how much yours got, but it seems pretty big seeing your description Oo

I use it only at night during my sadhana, as I am not fully vegetarian, I do not wear it. But Rudrashka should be put in a altar or some sort of bag, to protect the beads and keep it's purity.

I don't think there's a proper mantra...The only mantra I use with it is "Om Namah Shivaya"

Are you sure you don't have the the smaller beads one? I think I have the normal sized rudraksha, they are pretty big. (5 mukhis since thats the most common). I think its 55 or 56 my one and its that big. I'm not short either I'm 6 ft 2. So...not sure....

If I am viewing your beads correctly, they look a bit dry. It is okay to wash them ( nice clean water) and a new clean soft brush only used for this purpose. Some people also add a light oil to them (sandal wood oil) so the beads do not crack over time.

And if you are looking for 'extra credit' and looking to keep your beads for a while, have a new thread ( I like red) re-strung , with a knot between each bead on each side, so bead 1 does not ~rub~ bead number 2. Some ( like me) have felt between each bead to avoid this rubbing.
Now there is tradition to have 108 beads +1 for the guru, and 109. Yet the śiva mahāpurāṇa gives many numbers and sizes for one to consider.

Vannakkam Icy: Here's a video to the trees. It is an amazing large and solid tree. They grow really fast as well, and underneath them, all along the ground are thousands of seeds. But leaving them there, and they rot, just become compost, although some do sprout. So you pick them as fruit, a small blue fruit, and then they are cleaned that way with a spray washer, then drilled. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrR9CeVn9q4

    Re: Rudraksha

    Namaste,

I have seen rudraksha mala of 108 / 2 = 55 + 1 main bead which looks different or has a red cloth - so that you can facilitate the counting adn completion of one cycle.

You will have to finish the mala 2 times to complete 108 chants

I think it is not a problem to wear it but in general, it should not go beyond your naval i.e. place where Umbilical cord of new born baby is cut.

Some say, wear it to a height that is in between center of chest and not below it.

If you are not concerned with Yog, where such things are taken too seriously, then you can forget about it and keep wearing it, but not below your naval.

i have seen some only wear just one bead tied with a black thread. some keep 2 sets, on for wearing and other for chanting.

It's all about faith (and convenience), though it's better to follow customs.

Vannakkam: As far as the wearing of the longer ones goes, sannyasins often twist them, and fold, so it is doubled for wearing.
