    A peculiar thought

We are hear about artificial death, preserving the body with cryogenic fluid and reviving after some years.

Now assuming this becoming true after few decades, some questions are coming in my mind.

    1. Will the mind go out of the body ?

    2. If yes, then will the same mind come back to the body ?

    3. Will the body remember the past and behave as the original person ?

    4. How this phenomenon will have impact on the practice of Hindu knowledge ?

Does the heart keep beating all the while? If not, where would organs get their nutrients from?

    1. Will the mind go out of the body ?
No. There is "nowhere" for the mind to go.

    3. Will the body remember the past and behave as the original person ?
I think so. What is the difference between "artificial death" and a very long deep sleep for say, 16-20 hours?

    4. How this phenomenon will have impact on the practice of Hindu knowledge ?
No impact as far as I can see.

Due to extreme low temperature, the organs and cells will not decay but again will cease to function and be in dormant state.

The blood is drained out and replaced by cryogenic fluid. In this case the body is dead. The heart will stop.

Later on when the plan is to revive, the cryogenic fluid is replaced by blood and further procedures are done to revive the body.

Now if this is true, then how it might be defined from Hinduism POV

I think it boils down to the question of the jiva/purusha/self and what its relationship is with prakriti/nature/matter.

The mind/body/senses are play of prakriti - the purusha is the aloof witness.

The body is still alive in a cryogenic state, but the metabolism is EXTREMELY slowed. But the person is still alive.

Vannakkam: At this time it seems like very much a hypothetical, but if the body is still there, the soul wouldn't depart. It would be a real "Rip Van Winkle'. The culture shock coming out might cause a real death.

    Dear EM,

That might not be true. Say the mamoth found intact deep inside the siberian area recently (a few years back) was fully intact or for the matter, human buried under deep snow are kept intact due to the extreme temperature, but can we say that the soul (mind in consciousness) has not departed ?

It is very unlikely. Now even we take this as hypothetical now (movie - frankestine) but this may come true in future (very likely).

In the evntuality of such, how can we explain from Hinduism pov ?

Or can we say that this is impossible ?

The animal or human would be dead if packed or buried in water ice or snow. Ice crystal form with the cells. These crystals cause the cells to rupture, causing total organ failure. The person or animal is dead. Hence the use of liquid nitrogen, which does not have the same effect. Frozen sperm, ova and embryos are perfectly viable.

Now, there are some fish who have a sort of natural anti-freeze component in their bodies that prevents ice crystals from forming. These fish can live in below freezing waters with no ill effects.

So how this should be interpreted.

Shoud I say that Soul did not leave the body completely ?

So the person is beyond Coma state but not actually dead ?

In that case it will be easier to explain. But are we sure about that ?
